How Evil Ryu joined the Tourney[]
According to the Street Fighter Alpha series, Sagat, the defending champion, after beating Ryu, extends his hand to help Ryu to his feet after thinking that he has won. Ryu is so consumed with the desire to win that he gives into the Satsui no Hado ("Evil Surge" or "Dark Hado" in the American version), and executes a Metsu Shoryuken, scarring Sagat's chest with rage and hate and also attacking his pride. He's now joined the 2nd Smash Bros. Tourney by an Unknown girl.
How to Unlock[]
The player must complete one of the following requirements to unlock Evil Ryu:
- Play 105 matches in the Versus Mode.
- Clear Classic Mode with Ryu without continues on Hard Difficulty.
For both of these options, the player must brawl Evil Ryu on the Black Hole of Destruction stage. After defeating Evil Ryu, the announcer will say "Someone else has joined the Tourney!" after a Smash Ball appears on the lower-right corner of the screen with a message saying "You can now use the evil form of Ryu, better known as Evil Ryu."

Gohadoken (Neutral)[]
Evil Ryu fires a purple energy ball.
Tatsumaki Zankukyaku (Side)[]
Evil Ryu performs a hurricane kick.
Goshoryuken (Up)[]
Evil Ryu says "Shoryuken!" and performs a jumping uppercut in which he spins and rockets upwards.
Ashura Senkuu (Down)[]
Evil Ryu widens his stance, glows red, then lifts one knee and "glides" forwards along the ground to another location with his eyes aglow.
Raging Demon (Hyper Smash)[]
Based on his Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition Super Combo, Evil Ryu poses and then warps via Ashura Senkuu towards the opponent to grab them. The screen flashes with light and violent strikes are seen "as the might of the 16 hells bombard the foe" while the screen is blacked out. Evil Ryu and the opponent will then reappear, with the opponent sent flying as he says "MESSATSU!".
Messatsu Ghoshoryuken (Final Samash)[]
Based on his Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2nd Ultra Combo, Evil Ryu begins the combo by shouting "Die!", and performs three Goshoryukens. If the first two hit, an animation plays after the third uppercut, in which he charges ki in his hand and uses it to slam his opponent into the ground (similarly to Misogi) while yelling "Death's embrace awaits!". He then pulls his hand from their chest/torso.
